The mainland is here connected with the island Murter by a bridge over the Tisno straits. There are four villages inhabited mostly by olive-oil producers, fishermen, farmers, shipbuilders and seamen. One can reach all the villages on the island on one road, and be surprised how houses are close to the sea.
First village on the island that you certainly can't and shouldn't miss is Tisno.
Tisno emerged as a result of the local population retreating from advancing Turkish conquestors. It was named after the narrow straits dividing island from the mainland. First time was mentioned under this name in 1474. The bridge connecting the island Murter and the mainland was built in the beginning of the 18th century and replaced with the new drawbridge.
The oldest church in the village is Sveti Duh (St. Spirit) built in 1548, restored in the baroque style in the 17th century. Beautiful campanile was built in 1680 thanks to the hard work of local craftsmen.

Today Tisno has population of 1500. There you can find a post office, bank, surgery, pharmacy, supermarket, green market, daily fresh fish market etc - to serve your needs and make your holiday more pleasant.

Heute leben in Tisno etwa 1500 Menschen.
